The role in a nutshell
The role is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to be part of a global cryptocurrency business. Luno is building Asia’s first product & engineering hub in Indonesia to create a product loved by Indonesian customers. This is a perfect opportunity to build and lead your own world class engineering team. You will work closely with Luno’s VP of Engineering, General Manager of SEA, and Indonesia’s Country Manager to further Luno’s mission to bring cryptocurrency to the masses.
You will be based in the Jakarta office, and you will report to Luno’s VP Engineering who is based in London, UK. You will also work closely with the Country Managers in the region to excel in your mission.
Your mission will involve:
- Leading the Engineering function in Indonesia.
- As part of the Engineering Leadership Team, work closely with the VP Engineering, CTO, and your peers to set the tone, culture, vision, strategy, and quality bar.
- Constantly look for opportunities to improve our tooling, processes, team structure, and more.
- Be an enthusiastic advocate for agile ways of working and metrics to inform decision making.
- Leading and developing people
- Manage a group of primarily Engineering Managers, with Individual Contributor Engineers and other adjacent roles as necessary and as we grow.
- Oversee performance, promotions, escalations, learning and development, and more as the “manager of last resort” for your teams.
- Hire world class individual contributors and managers and facilitate effective resource allocation across your own and peers’ teams.
- Be accountable for ensuring the people within your portfolio are happy, motivated, accountable and high performing.
- Be accountable for the budget and costs of your teams.
- Delivering high quality products
- Be accountable for the technical output and quality of your portfolio of fleets and pods.
- Ensure fit for purpose engineering practices and pipelines are in place for each service/product within your portfolio.
- Oversee key projects, managing risks and scope with key stakeholders (commercial, product, security, etc) to deliver predictably and efficiently.
- Ensure that the pace of delivery and releases to production remains high and impactful.
- Owning your part of the strategy
- Communicate and reiterate company and Engineering vision and objectives across your organisation.
- Use your team and peers to devise and deliver medium term technical strategy that aligns with the wider organisation’s goals.
- Capture critical engineering Objectives and Key Results to feed into company-wide planning, and ensure that OKRs are prioritised, captured, and tracked appropriately.
- Ensuring world class service reliability
- Be accountable for the quality of service that your teams deliver to our customers, challenging them to constantly improve.
- Ensure your teams follow our defined rhythms and policies to track, measure, and report on stability and reliability, including incidents, call-outs, operational health, and more.
The ideal Lunaut will have:
- Experience in leading multiple software engineering teams of over 25 heads
- A capacity to both act as a servant leader and to lead from the front
- Experience with the OKR framework
- Proven experience in hiring and growing engineers and managers, including performance management
- Experience writing code, designing, or delivering software systems
- BSc/MSc/PhD in computer science or other technical discipline, or equivalent working experience
- A passion for software development, mobile technology and Bitcoin
- Friendly, transparent, articulate and is driven to succeed
- Extensive experience in applying agile frameworks and lean thinking to continuously deliver outcome-based technical, delivery, business, and process improvements
- The ability to work with remote teams across time zones and foster a collaborative and creative work environment
- Proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia
